The 2016 India Advanced Leadership Program (IALP) commenced in late August 2016 for a delegation of twenty-one Secretary, Additional Secretary and Joint Secretary level officers from the Indian Government in Sydney and Melbourne. They included the Secretary of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion and the Secretary of the Ministry of Urban Development.

The one week program was developed by ANZSOG Dean Gary Banks and Dr Jeff Harmer and focussed on leadership and strategic policy. It covered such topics as innovation and collaboration in government, public sector and economic reform, infrastructure and public/private partnerships, sound governance and integrity in public administration and leading organisational change.

As part of the program, the group undertook a tour of Royal Prince Alfred hospital in Sydney, where they visited the hospital’s Institute of Academic Surgery and the emergency and medical imaging departments.

The group was also treated to a tour and dinner at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, featuring former Australian Test Captain, Ian Chappell, and an address by Chris Eccles, Secretary of the Department of Premier and Cabinet Victoria.

The 2016 IALP was rated very highly by participants. It was designed and developed by ANZSOG in partnership with the Indian Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions with sponsorship from the NSW and Victorian Governments and support of the Australian Government. This was the fifth program to be delivered, with ANZSOG’s inaugural India program being held in February 2013.
