Family Safety Victoria is the first Victorian government agency to be solely dedicated to family violence reform, and is headed by ANZSOG alum Sue Clifford, who was appointed in August.
The agency is responsible for delivering the Victorian Government’s action plan to end family violence. It is leading the implementation of new initiatives, including establishing the Central Information Point that will allow police, courts and government services to track perpetrators and keep victims safe, and establishing Support and Safety Hubs across the state, to give women and children the coordinated support they need to recover

Ms Clifford was a commander in the Victorian Police before becoming the agency’s first head. She spent almost three decades working with Victoria Police, specialising in the areas of family violence, sexual assault and child abuse. Her most recent role was Commander of the Priority Communities Division at Victoria Police, which was established to engage more effectively and purposefully with diverse communities across Victoria.
She has also worked as Manager of People and Culture at the Australian Football League, and was responsible for the development and management of a number of programs that changed how the AFL community perceived Respect and Responsibility, Drugs and Anti-Doping and Gambling Alcohol. She was also Chair of the AFLs Vilification Committee.
As well as completing an ANZSOG Executive Master in Public Administration (EMPA) Ms Clifford has studied at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
Ms Clifford has played a key and influential role in the development of with the White Ribbon Foundation, and has previously been a Board member for Domestic Violence Victoria.
