Associate Professor Zeger van der Wal, from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Government in Singapore is an expert on the challenges faced by modern public managers.

He recently delivered two seminars in New Zealand discussing how can public servants can navigate the complexities of the “VUCA” (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous) world of the 21st century, and how to balance the traditional legal and moral values of the public service with the modern pressure to deliver efficient and effective outcomes.

He outlined the need for public managers to be flexible, collaborative and innovative, to adapt to the disruptive world they are navigating and continue to deliver public value.
