Reimagining the public service workforce

In a volatile, complex and fast-changing world, it is inevitable that twenty-first century public servants will be required to play different roles and demonstrate a new set of skills and capabilities. While domain knowledge and a high standard of ethics and integrity will never lose their importance to good government, the future will demand some new and challenging combinations of relational skills, thinking like a citizen rather than a state, exercising leadership beyond boundaries and mandate, and high levels of data literacy and capacity to communicate. Not to mention keeping up with increasing social and demographic diversity, a digitally-demanding citizenry and apparently permanent austerity…

Fortunately our distinguished speaker is here to help!  Dr Catherine Mangan, Director of the Public Services Academy, from the University of Birmingham, is an international expert in forecasting the shape of the world which will face public managers and unpacking the steps needed to negotiate our common future.
