Policy and Program Skills

Professor Mintrom and guest presenters including Hon Bronwyn Pike, Dr Zareh Ghazarian (Monash University), Professor Ross Guest (Griffith University) and Monica Pfeffer (ANZSOG) will guide participants through policy processes to understand the different roles and structures in government, policy cycles, and the definition and analysis of issues to achieve desired outcomes.

“Good public policy and programs can make the world a better place,” Professor Mintrom says. “In complex circumstances, it’s a challenge to define purpose and measure performance, while also dealing with shared authority and stakeholder pressure.”

Key benefits

Professor Mintrom will increase participants’ understanding of policy processes and equip them with the skills to better support decision-makers. This program will benefit people in roles involving policy or program development and design – in any jurisdiction or agency.

You will become more adept at thinking strategically in complex situations often characterised by constant pressure from stakeholders, and you will learn how to more effectively deal with political and pressure group demands.

Working through practical examples, you will learn more about conducting policy analysis and developing effective policy, stakeholder engagement, and how to use economic frameworks and other evidence in policy advice.
