Community Engagement is now a feature of all levels of government - and communities increasingly expect to have a ‘voice that matters’ in the work of government. Being able to engage authentically and meaningfully means your outcomes will be better, and your services targeted where they need to be. This session will help you to choose an engagement approach that best meets your objectives, the community and or stakeholders that you need to involve and the environment in which you are working.

What will you learn?

As a result of participating in this program, participants will be armed with a design framework to assist them in developing a ‘best fit’ engagement approach.

In particular, participants will:

  • Be better able to deeply understand their agency's objectives in engaging.
  • Better identify who needs to be involved in their engagement process and why they should be involved
  • Be alerted to the need to consider broader issues that will affect their engagement effort
  • Understand where to use different types of engagement and what these different types of engagement will help to achieve. This will involve building deep understanding of the IAP2 Spectrum of Participation
  • Have formed ideas for how they might improve their practice immediately back in their workplace
  • Understand the practical application of engagement principles and learn about some tools required for better engagement.

Whether you are involved in developing/ designing services, policy development, communications or project management – this training is for you! It is great for anyone who has a need or will have a need in the future to involve stakeholders or community in their work. This session is great to experience as a team – as it allows you to co-develop good ideas for your next engagement opportunity.
