In 2005 Jon Hall joined the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development and lead their Global Project on Measuring the Progress of Societies for 5 years. This work aimed to persuade governments around the world of the need to develop new measures of national progress and set policies to achieve them.
In 2012 Hall moved to the United Nations Development Programme in New York and work in the Human Development Report Office. Since leaving Australia Hall has spoken about statistics, indicators and wellbeing in about 50 countries and was one of 12 "global opinion leaders" invited to meet Angela Merkel in 2013 to discuss wellbeing.
