Funding opportunities – ANZSOG

ANZSOG is eager to support innovative, cutting-edge research into public policy and strategic management issues for the benefit of government and the public sector. Individuals are invited to submit a proposal for ANZSOG research funding, which will then be considered by ANZSOG’s Research Committee.

All submissions proposing an analysis or discussion of evidence informing decision-making should be forwarded to George Argyrous, Senior Lecturer in Evidence-Based Policy and Managing Editor of Evidence Base Journal

ANZSOG Research Funding

When Are Funding Proposals Due?
Submissions will be called for ANZSOG research funding in September 2012. Submissions must be sent to ANZSOG (research | at | anzsog.edu.au) this year by late November (dates TBA).

Am I Eligible?
All researchers are open to apply for ANZSOG research funding, provided that they:

  • Have attained a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) as a minimum qualification, and
  • Have been involved in at least one ANZSOG Activity (including teaching, research and applied learning).

What are the Criteria?
Proposals for ANZSOG Research Funding Support must, at a minimum, meet all four mandatory requirements below in order to be considered. Proposals for ANZSOG Research Funding Support that meet these mandatory requirements will then be assessed and merit ranked by the ANZSOG Research Committee using the criteria listed below.

Proposals for ANZSOG Research Funding Support that satisfy criteria 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 will be attributed the maximum percentage available for each relevant criterion.

Mandatory requirements
1) Investigator: the Project is led by an academic who:

  1. Is closely involved in at least one ANZSOG Activity, and
  2. Demonstrates a strong record of high-quality research in the fields of public administration, public management or public policy. (10%)

2) Teaching resource: the Project is designed as a resource for, or is likely to inform, future ANZSOG teaching or applied learning/knowledge activities. (40%)

3) Academic contribution: the Project fills a gap in existing research-based knowledge of an aspect of public administration, public management or public policy. (25%)

4) Publication outputs: the Project will produce, at a minimum:

  1. One paper admitted to an academic journal, particularly the Australian Journal of Public Administration (AJPA), the Australian Journal of Political Science, Public Administration, the Public Administration Review and the International Journal of Public Administration,
  2. One submission to the ANZSOG/ANU Monograph Series, or
  3. One paper submitted to the ANZSOG/SSA Occasional Paper Series. (10%)

Additional considerations
5) Collaboration: the Project involves interjurisdictional, especially Trans-Tasman, collaboration with researchers from more than one ANZSOG University Partner. (5%)

6) Government support: the Project involves an ANZSOG Government Partner contributing funding or, at a minimum, in-kind support. (5%)

7) Initial outputs: the Project will produce Initial Outputs, regardless of the estimated Project Length. (5%)

Funding Rules
All Proposals for ANZSOG Research Funding Support must strictly fulfill the requirements set out in the ANZSOG Funding Rules.

Funding Agreement
All successful Proposals for ANZSOG Research Funding Support must fulfill the conditions set out in the ANZSOG Funding Agreement (signed by successful applicants), which outlines the responsibilities of all parties. The Funding Agreement should be read in conjunction with the Funding Rules, however the Funding Agreement will prevail where there is any inconsistency.
