Profile

Robin Ryde is a business author, leadership and organisational development expert, former CEO of the UK National School of Government and a co-founder of the research enterprise, Public leadership Inquiry.  Mr Ryde has a broad range of senior level public service experience and was the youngest person to direct the British Prime Minister’s Top Management Programme, one of the largest leadership development courses of its kind in Europe.

He has been both HR Director and Evaluation Director with the UK National Audit Office and an Executive team member of ‘4ps’, now Local Partnerships, the project and procurement consultancy for local government. He also headed up the UK National School of Government’s leadership centre and has consulted in the UK, the US, South America, Australia, United Arab Emirates and Eastern Europe. Mr Ryde also directs the Executive Fellows Program for ANZSOG.

His publications include Thought Leadership; Moving Hearts and Minds and Custom-Built Leadership both with Palgrave Macmillan.  Mr Ryde writes and guest edits for the International Journal of Leadership in Public Services and has written widely on issues of employee engagement, horizon scanning, modern approaches to leadership development, talent management and change. He is currently drafting a third publication to be called The Death of Deference.

As CEO of the UK National School of Government Mr Ryde lead a full cost recovery business and chaired committees such as the Public Service Leadership Alliance and represented on senior HR and leadership committees. He has lead evaluations of large government programs ranging from those dealing with the procurement of military equipment, to major investments to tackle social deprivation, to the sale of large quantities of gold reserves.  As a Director with the management consultancy 4ps Mr Ryde worked at the intersection between the private and the public sector in supporting large scale, high investment 30-year Private Finance Initiatives.

Mr Ryde is a Visiting Fellow of Ashridge Management Centre, the Oxford Group, the Centre for Public Service Partnerships and the National School of Government in the UK. Mr Ryde’s belief that good communication is the basis of good business led him to set up Robin Ryde Consulting Ltd (UK) to continue to explore methods for achieving excellence in leadership, facilitation and talent management and bring them to the people he believes to be in some of the toughest jobs around.
