June Alumni Event Leadership for Aid Effectiveness - PACE Alumni Workshop 2012 13 - 15 Jun 2012 Fiji

Venue:
Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa
Denarau Island

This workshop is open to PACE Alumni from the 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 cohorts. As we now have over 115 members in the PACE Alumni Network, the 2012 workshop will be a great opportunity to get together with your PACE colleagues, deepen your professional relationships with your peers across the Pacific, and build your leadership and management knowledge and skills.

Further details of the workshop will be published as they come to hand. Attendance is by formal invitation. Enquiries can be directed to the ANZSOG International programs team.

Theme
Responding to feedback and suggestions from our alumni, the theme for the 2012 workshop will be “Leadership for Aid Effectiveness”. Details of the workshop program are currently being developed by a small design team headed by the Course Leader, Deborah Rhodes, the PACE Academic Director Dr Richard Norman, and two selected Alumni. It is likely that the workshop will examine the outcomes of the recent Busan Forum on Aid Effectiveness and the need for increased ownership of aid programs by donor recipient countries. In line with the ANZSOG teaching philosophy, the workshop will be an interactive learning process – facilitated discussions, selected formal guest speakers, examination of Pacific case studies, and interactive learning drawing on the perspectives and experience of the PACE alumni.

Workshop leader
We are thrilled to advise that Deborah Rhodes has accepted the role of Course Leader for this workshop. Deborah is a consultant in international development, with extensive experience and particular interest in capacity development approaches relevant to Asian and Pacific cultural contexts. She is a skilled facilitator, and will be familiar to PACE participants for her delivery into PACE on the issues of cross-cultural communication. She has also worked in Pacific Island countries since 1986 in many different roles.

Deborah has worked with many Government agencies, civil society and private sector organisations on aid and development issues. Her professional background includes seven years with AusAID and seven years in management roles at Australian Volunteers International. She also worked with a Managing Contractor, including as a Project Director for a successful Pacific multi-country project.   Since 2003, Deborah has worked independently, providing consultancy services and training in aid program design, management and monitoring, as well as capacity development. In 2006, she was appointed as a member of AusAID’s Capacity Development Panel of Experts.  She is currently writing a book on capacity development in the Pacific.

Deborah has a Master in International Development based on research with disabled people’s organisations in Fiji. She is a Director of Australia Pacific Islands Disability Support, which works in partnership with Pacific Disabled Peoples Organisations.
