Human Research Ethics Committee

The ANZSOG Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) has been established to ensure that the principles of the Australian National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Research Involving Humans are complied with when research is undertaken by ANZSOG.

Information about ethical conduct in research involving humans

Work Based Projects

Research for the Work Based Project may, or may not, require ethics approval. It requires approval if it is research involving humans within the National Statement guidelines.

Some research involving humans for Work Based Projects is minimal risk.. An application is required, but the approval process is simpler, with applications being considered by a subcommittee of the HREC.
See Minimal Risk research.

Often your application will be accompanied by a consent form and explanatory statement. To assist you, examples of good practice documents are available.

Application for ethics approval

If research undertaken falls under the definition of "research involving humans" as defined by the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Research Involving Humans, a research project cannot proceed until written approval has been given by the ANZSOG Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC).

Applications for ethical approval are to be submitted to the ANZSOG Human Research Ethics Committee on our standard form.
