welcome background governance aims

"...we see the school having an important role
in developing the future leaders of
our region's public sectors..."

The Hon John Howard, MP,
Prime Minister of Australia

Rt Hon Helen Clark, Prime Minister of New Zealand

"The Australia and New Zealand School of Government has the capacity to become a leading international centre in this field. Participation will challenge everyone involved. This is an ambitious idea, and one we believe is worth pursuing."

Rt Hon Helen Clark,
Prime Minister of New Zealand

Background

The Australia and New Zealand School of Government is an exciting new initiative of seven governments and fourteen higher education institutions. The governments are the Commonwealth of Australia, the New Zealand Government, and the State Governments of New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia.

The School aims to provide world-class postgraduate programs to emerging leaders and senior executives in the public sector and government-related sectors.

The consortium of governments and universities recognise that one of the significant challenges for all governments in the 21st century is to enhance the depth and breadth of policy and management skills and invest in the further education and development of those who are destined to be leaders in the public sector.

ANZSOG provides a unique opportunity for national and international learning, networking, collaboration and research in the areas of public policy, public management and public administration.

ANZSOG programs are tailored to the unique needs of Australian and New Zealand governments and draws on the experience of leading academics, public officials and politicians from Australia, New Zealand and overseas. ANZSOG attracts outstanding, high potential, students from Australia and New Zealand, and will, in due course, take candidates from other countries in our geographic region.
