Dean's Message

Welcome

The Australia and New Zealand School of Government (ANZSOG) is a unique educational institution. ANZSOG is dedicated to promoting outstanding public sector leadership and policy that really works for the benefit of the public. Put simply, our education and research programs are all aimed at making genuine, practical improvements to public management and policy and the provision of government services. ANZSOG was established in 2002 by a consortium of Australian and New Zealand Governments, Universities and Business Schools which share a vision of creating a world-class institution which focuses on the needs of the government and community sectors.

The School is funded by its member governments and draws on the very best academic talent available at 16 leading universities and business schools from throughout Australia and New Zealand. It is this collaboration with our partners – governments, universities and business schools – that enables ANZSOG to offer high quality, contemporary programs that are tailored for the public sector. We are a flagship school in the region offering world-class learning opportunities in the field of public administration. ANZSOG is an exciting, important and innovative initiative for Australia and New Zealand. It assists in developing the future generation of public sector leaders, and helps promote the idea that public administration is a profession of great social value.

The School has three main foci:  education of senior and emerging public sector leaders, research and knowledge transfer, and a case study program. A range of activities is undertaken including delivery of accredited academic courses, a busy program of seminars, workshops and policy forums, and publishing in a range of mediums to  disseminate the results of these activities as widely as possible.

Together, these activities add something entirely new to Australasia’s higher education landscape, while also contributing to a deeper community understanding of government. Our programs are providing crucial development opportunities for the leaders of our most vital public services. In so doing, we hope to create a lasting legacy of good government that enriches the economic, cultural, social and intellectual life of our societies.

It gives me great satisfaction to be the Dean of a school with such a noble purpose – and to see the value our programs are delivering to the participants and our government partners. I encourage you to learn more about our unique School by exploring our website.
